The West London Alliance (WLA), formed in 1998 by the London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow, aims to promote the economic, environmental and social well being of the West London community. To achieve this aim the WLA:
- Lobbies on behalf of the sub-region's residents, businesses and visitors to secure the policies and the resources that are required to meet the needs of West London
- Develops, with its partners, collaborative strategies and initiatives to improve West London
- Promotes improvements in the provision of public services by sharing knowledge, expertise and resources; undertaking joint ventures to enhance service delivery; and securing additional resources to underpin or develop services.
Examples of WLA initiatives include:
- Developing with West London partners a programme of activities and projects aimed at supporting the successful staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012 and at making sure that West London residents and businesse gain the maximum benefit possible from the Games.
- Improving customer choice through the provision of LOCTA - a choice-based allocation system for the letting of Council properties
- Developing a West London strategic approach to transport improvements and securing funding annually from Transport for London to implement key sub-regional transport projects
- In partnership with other key stakeholders, developing a new Economic Development Strategy and Implementaion Plan for West London in order to promote sustainable economic growth, competitive businesses and thriving communities where all are able to share in the benefits of growth.
To acheive its aims and objectives the West London Alliance works in partnership with key agencies and stakeholders in West London. The main vehicle for this partnership working is the West London Partnership (WLP).
