The availability of affordable and appropriate housing to meet the range of needs of West London residents and home seekers is a key issue for the West London Alliance and its partners.
The West London Housing Partnership consists of the 6 WLA boroughs plus the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. This grouping of boroughs reflects the Housing Corporation's West London sub region (one of 5 sub regions), to which the Government allocates funding for the development of new affordable housing and, via the London Regional Housing Pot, funding for private sector housing renewal and other targeted programmes.
Sub regional Funding: The 2006-2008 funding allocation for new affordable housing in West London comes to just under £300 million (21% of the total for London). In addition the housing partnership has successfully bid for a further £11m from the London Regional Housing Pot to deliver private sector decent homes, bring empty properties back into use, and for an extensions and deconversions project to deliver larger social rented homes. Government funding has also been awarded to the sub region for various sub regional homelessness projects, including a project to set up and deliver a sub regional private sector lettings scheme.
The Strategy: The West London Housing Partnership (WLHP) has a 10 year housing strategy outlining how the partnership intends to deliver an increased supply of housing, particularly affordable housing, and build sustainable communities. The WLHP works closely with the WLA planning group on spatial planning issues and particularly on the supply of land for housing development and affordable housing. The Housing Partnership has been closely involved in the development of the West London Economic Development Strategy which prioritises housing issues. In February 2007 the WLHP delivered a response to Towards the Mayor's Housing Strategy which can be viewed
