New residential and nursing care scheme for West London

West London launches innovative approved list and accreditation, purchasing and contract management scheme.

The six boroughs that make up the West London Alliance (WLA) have today launched an Accreditation, Purchasing and Contract Management Scheme (APC). The WLA boroughs are Ealing, Brent, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow.

Through the APC scheme, WLA boroughs will work with residential and nursing care providers to influence and shape current and future care provision in the sub-region. This will promote increased choice, quality and independence for care users.

To become part of the APC Scheme, you need to join the Approved List first. Membership of the Approved List will enable care home providers to deliver care services to all six WLA boroughs.

The Approved List will take a phased approach starting with Phase one - older people services. Phase one will have four categories: Residential, Nursing, Residential Dementia and Nursing Dementia. Additional care categories will follow at a later stage.

To join the Approved List and access the APC Scheme, you must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and be compliant with the new standards. You must also be able to supply services at or below the fee ceiling rates detailed in the pricing schedule.

The Approved List will be four years in duration and it is expected that the first group of successful providers will be added to the List in December 2011.
